Genoa, Nev. — Three of the five honorees at Saturday’s Community Recognition Awards were celebrated for their work on the summer’s fires. Videos about Liz Begovich, the Partnership of Community Resources and volunteer firefighter Tom Hein all referenced the fires. Also recognized on Saturday night were JT Basque Bar & Dining Room for best business and Dennis Little for citizen of the year.


A third of a century after the Legislature changed the names in 1979 of regional street and highway commissions in Nevada to regional transportation commissions in state law, Douglas is catching up with a proposed code change. The “Regional Transportation Commission” meets 4 p.m. today at the historic Douglas County Courthouse in Minden.


On Saturday, the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center hosted its first family day. At least four R-C alum from the 1970s and 1980s turned out for the display of R-C’s from the ’70s. Joyce Hollister snagged the edition with a photo taken by Jay Aldrich of her daughters making candy with Lena Falcke.


The wind watch has been reduced to an advisory for Western Nevada with south winds forecast to be 20-30 mph, gusting up to 55 mph starting 6 p.m. and lasting until 4 a.m. Tuesday.


The wind is expected to diminish as the rain arrives early Tuesday morning. We’re not looking at a whole fifth of an inch of rain in the forecast, or anything resembling snow.


Today’s forecast is for a chance of rain after 4 p.m. with the snow level rising from 4,900 to 6,200 feet this afternoon. Otherwise we’re looking at mostly sunny skies with the high around 58 degrees.
