New Douglas County Public Library Director Tim DeGhelder started work on Monday.

DeGhelder comes to Douglas County from Paris, Texas, where he was also a library director. His career includes management of library operations in a variety of capacities not only in Texas, but also in St. Charles City-County Library District, just outside of St. Louis, Mo.

DeGhelder spent several years teaching English in Thailand.

“Experiencing the Thai culture and scenic geography was amazing,” he said. “Thai people have a truly beautiful spirit and lovely culture. My wife and kids are coming straight from Thailand and have never touched snow before. I think they will love having four seasons in the beautiful scenery of Douglas County.”

Library Board Chairwoman Heather Martin Maier welcomed DeGhelder.

“On behalf of the Library Board of Trustees, this was a very thorough and competitive search, and we are delighted to welcome Mr. DeGhelder to Douglas County where he will undoubtedly be a great asset to our library and our community.”

DeGhelder said it was an honor to be selected.

“I am enthusiastic about making the Douglas County Public Library a part of the daily lifestyle for Douglas County residents,” he said. “I look forward to partnering with Douglas County community partners to provide greater outreach and services to the county.”
