Carson, Douglas and Sierra Lutheran cross country teams all had at least one individual qualify for the state meet this Saturday at Shadow Mountain in Sparks.
The Class 5A boys raced kicked off the regional meet with Douglas’ Jackson Davis taking the top spot of the area runners in 10th.
Davis said post-race his goal was to win the meet.
“I was just not feeling 100 percent,” said Davis. “The course definitely goes up and down and there are quite a bit of turns, which can make it tricky.”
The aptly named ‘Mickey’ loop course – which looks like the head of Mickey Mouse from above – was a two-lap design that went around the baseball fields before climbing up and down a hill.
The race concluded with a straightaway onto the track of Reed High School.
“I 100 percent could do a lot better,” said Davis. “I’m going to get them at state.”
As a team, Douglas was eighth while Carson took sixth. Only the top five teams in Class 5A qualified as a unit for the state meet.
The top seven individuals, not on qualifying teams, also earned a bid to the state meet.
The Senators had three individual runners earn one final race of the season in Ethan Bauerle, Dominic Valdez and Sawyer Macy.

Julia Kaiser (34th), Eleanor Romeo (36th) and Hannah McCoy (37th) rounded out the Senators runners.
Douglas’ Anna Elias was the Tigers’ top finisher in 41st in a time of 24:31.
