Genoa, Nev. — Main Street Gardnerville is planning dedicate a bike rack today to the memory of longtime supporter Shannon Hickey, who died over the weekend. Shannon was a native of Carson Valley, a descendent of several of the Valley’s oldest families, and a friend. She will be sorely missed.


On Monday, it was announced that transportation, communications and utilities workers are now eligible for coronavirus vaccination.


Community testing is scheduled for 9-10:30 a.m. today at the Douglas County Community Center in Gardnerville. As vaccinations become more widespread, the number of folks being tested is steadily dwindling. The record was 411 on July 15 last year. March 3 saw 42.


Every county in Nevada or its neighbor is eligible for federal disaster loans to offset economic losses due to drought. Lyon’s on the list, so that means Douglas, Storey and Carson are included as neighboring counties.


Expect mostly sunny and clear skies today with a high temperature of 52 degrees and the wind calm out of the west at 5 mph this afternoon. We’ve got a two-day break in the weather before the chance of rain or snow on Thursday.
