Deputies conduct fundraiser for dispatcher

Emergency Dispatcher Kristin Oilar

Emergency Dispatcher Kristin Oilar

The friendly rivalry between deputies and firefighters is being channeled to help a friend of all first responders.

East Fork Professional Firefighters and Douglas County deputies are rushing to the aid of someone who has sent them to aid many residents over the last two decades.

It has been less than a month since 20-year 911 Dispatcher Kristin Oilar received her diagnosis for pancreatic cancer.

Oilar’s friend and co-worker Melissa Johnson set up a gofundme account to aid Oilar.

Oilar will require two to three months of chemotherapy to shrink a tumor, which lies near a main artery, after which, she’ll undergo a surgery to remove the tumor. Staring down months of brutal treatment and recovery, Oilar is facing her diagnosis with her trademark practicality and positive attitude.

Off-duty deputies will deliver meals from Cocomoes Eats on 3-7 p.m. March 12 in their own vehicles within 10 miles of the restaurant.

The meal is $18, but tips and donations will be welcome, with proceeds going to help Oilar.

There is also a Gofundme account established for Oilar at

Firefighters plan to conduct more fundraisers for Oilar in the coming months.
