Carson Valley’s celebration of America’s 245th birthday will see the return of July Fourth traditions in Genoa, Gardnerville and Minden.

Genoa, Nevada’s oldest town, will be hopping all day on the Fourth, starting with a children’s and pet parade at 10 a.m.

Americana acts such as the Front Porch Band, The Jazettes, Quake City Jug Band and Those Windburn Brothers will be performing through the day.

The crescendo will be provided by the Carson City Symphony, Carson Chamber Singers, vocalist Jakki Ford and the Joyful Noise Carson Children’s Choir at 4:30 p.m. The Genoa Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a chicken dinner starting at 11 a.m.

The day opens with the 8th annual Freedom 5K Run at Heritage Park sponsored by Main Street Gardnerville.

The figurative starting gun goes off at 8 a.m. with registration starting 7 a.m. that morning. Pre-registration can be found at www.mainstreetgardnerville.org. This year $5 of every registration fee will go to purchasing a wreath for the 218 veterans in Garden Cemetery.

At 11:30 a.m. the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra strikes up patriotic music.

Minden will be conducting its annual kids bike parade at a town barbecue 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 4.

Home fireworks are illegal in the Sierra Front, but there will be a fireworks show at Stateline in Douglas County. Carson City, Virginia City and Reno are also hosting fireworks on the Fourth of July.

More than a dozen organizations are gathering in Mormon Station State Historic Park in Genoa 10 a.m. July 3 for an American Roots Celebration hosted by the Sons of the American Revolution, Battle Born Patriots Chapter. The chapter was chartered in 1910 and is made up of men who are direct descendants of those who fought during the Revolutionary War.
