Preparations under way for musical Fourth

Mormon Station State Historic Park is already a bustle of activity as preparations are under way for the 27th annual Pops in the Park.

Residents have marked out their territory in many places of the park, located in the historic town of Genoa.

Members of the Pops Squad are setting up for the Reno Philharmonic's performance, which begins at 4:15 p.m.

Visitors are encouraged to arrive early in Genoa, where an estimated 3,000 people attend each year.

TV personality John Tyson will narrate the Gettysburg Address. The Reno Philharmonic Chorus and the Carson Chamber Singers are also scheduled to perform. The concert starts at 4:15 p.m. Entertainment gets underway at 1 p.m. and includes a silent auction, food, drinks, face painting, a Children's Instrument Petting Zoo and fun for the entire family. The concert is free, but there are a variety of fundraisers going on through the day.

Pops in the Park at Mormon Station State Historic Park this afternoon is just one of the two concerts conducted today.

The Carson Valley Pops Orchestra, conducted by Elizabeth Eubanks, presents their Independence Day concert, 2 p.m. Sunday, at Heritage Park in Gardnerville. Bring the family and a picnic for the free concert of patriotic favorites and music about the American West.

Carson Valley's own Glenwood Drive Parade is 11 a.m. today. The annual parade includes neighborhood residents who make the mile-long trek from one end of their Gardnerville Ranchos street in decorated bikes, lawn tractors, Jeeps and skateboards.
