Independence Day

The fourth annual Glenwood Drive Independence Day Parade is 11 a.m. Saturday on Glenwood Drive in the Gardnerville Ranchos. Set-up is 10:30 a.m. Information, tracy4573@charter.net


Genoa chicken barbecue

Tickets on sale through Thursday for the Town of Genoa's 4th of July chicken barbecue during the Pops in the Park celebration. Ticket price of $10 includes barbecued chicken half, coleslaw, baked potato, roll, butter and sour cream. Dinners served noon to 6 p.m. at the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department. Tickets at the Town of Genoa office, 782-8696.


Pops concert

The 26th annual Pops in the Park begins 1 p.m. Saturday at Mormon Station State Historic Park in Genoa. Patriotic music by the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Jason Altieri at 4:15 p.m. John Tyson narrates the "Lincoln Portrait." Entertainment by the Country Valley Jug Stompers, Carson Chamber Singers, Doc-o and Squeeky, the Gairin Celtic Singers, Chorus of the Comstock and a children's instrument petting zoo. Silent auction. Gardnerville Pops

The Red, White & Blue Celebration featuring the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra in Heritage Park in Gardnerville is 2 p.m. Saturday. Free ice cream cups. Information, 782-7134.


Lights on the Lake

The Fourth of July Lights on the Lake fireworks show begins at 9 p.m. Saturday at South Lake Tahoe.


Honoring veterans

Valley Christian Fellowship honors veterans during their church service, 10 a.m. Sunday, at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School, 701 Long Valley Road in the Gardnerville Ranchos. The Nevada National Guard honor guard is featured during service and at the 1 p.m. hot dog and hamburger barbecue and pot luck in Aspen Park.

Food provided for veterans, others are encouraged to bring a side dish to share. Information, 265-4100.
