Three Gardnerville residents injured in head-on accident

Three Gardnerville residents were injured in a head-on accident late Wednesday night.

The accident occurred 10:40 p.m. near the intersection of Centerville Road and Waterloo Lane.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the road was closed for three hours as rescuers helped the victims and investigated the accident.

Jeanette Smith, 52, had to be cut from her 2004 Chrysler van and after being transported to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center by ambulance was helicoptered to Reno with serious injuries.

The other driver, Christopher Piling, 23, and his passenger, Nigel G. Ingersoll, received moderate injuries in the accident. They were both taken to Carson City by ground ambulance, according to Trooper Chuck Allen of the Nevada Highway Patrol.

All three occupants were wearing seatbelts.

Allen said troopers are seeking information or witnesses to the accident. Anyone with information shcould call the Department of Public Safety at (775) 687-0400 regarding case No. NHP-1001202121.
