Teen dance

Douglas County Parks & Recreation hosts a teen dance for grades 6-8 with DJ music by Bill McClain's Mobile Music, 6:30-9 p.m. today, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Building. Cost of $10 includes slice of pizza and a drink. Students must arrange own transportation ahead of time and be picked up by 9 p.m. Middle school students must bring student ID. Learn scuba

Douglas County 4-H and Strictly Scuba host the Discover Scuba and Snorkeling meeting to introduce youth 9-18 to scuba diving, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, at the Carson City pool on Roop Street. Youth must bring swimsuit and towel. Parents must attend.

Sign up for the 4-H scuba project to continue diving lessons, meeting at 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, February to July in Douglas County. Youth learn to scuba dive in a pool with diving equipment and have the opportunity to get open-water dive certification. All 4-H scuba instructors are experienced divers who have completed background checks, and are specially trained to work with children. Make required reservations at 884-3483.


Beast Feast Saturday

The Minden Rotary Club's Beast Feast wild game chef's dinner is 6 p.m. Saturday at the Carson Valley Inn. The event features a five-course dinner of wild game and wine from Cleavage Creek Winery. Auction prizes include firearms, wine dinners, outdoor packages and vacation and golf experiences. Tickets are $75 and available from any Minden Rotarian or Brent Holderman at Carson River Bank, 781-5112 or bholderman@carsonrivercb.com

Monday. Tahitian chicken, rice casserole, braised red cabbage, bread, tangerine

Tuesday. Sloppy Joes, coleslaw, potato wedges, vegetables, banana cake

Wednesday. Cream of potato soup, ham and Swiss croissant, Caesar salad, grapes, cookie

Thursday. Beef chili, broccoli salad, corn bread, peach crisp

Friday. Turkey pot pie, salad with Italian dressing, bread, peach jam, baked apple


Shows added

Dinner and lunch shows of the Douglas County Historical Society's "Hotel Minden II, or Divorce Mill" melodrama on Jan. 29-31 are sold-out. Two open rehearsal shows have been added. Cost is $5 for 5 p.m. Jan. 26 show only. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Cost of $10 includes drink and hors d'oeuvres show at 6 p.m. Jan. 28. Recycle eyeglasses

Carson Valley Lions Club is collecting unwanted eyeglasses to distribute in developing countries. Donate used eyeglasses in Lions Recycle for Sight collection bins at the Minden post office, Douglas County Senior Center, Raley's, Scolari's, Smith's, Rite-Aid, and other Valley businesses.
