Weekly menu at senior center

Menu for the week of Jan. 4-8 at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville. Information, 783-6455.

Monday. Meatball stew, pasta salad, fruit cocktail, biscuit, dessert

Tuesday. Chicken cacciatore, polenta, peas and carrots, salad, pears, garlic bread

Wednesday. French dip au jus, bacon Swiss salad, onion rings, V-8, blueberry pie

Thursday. Sweet and sour pork, rice pilaf, cauliflower, bread, salad, peach

Friday. Crab stuffed tomato, hard-boiled egg, carrot sticks, pineapple, muffin


Young at Heart

The annual membership drive for the Young at Heart Senior Citizens Club is at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville. Membership is open to anyone age 55 or older and annual dues are $3. Sign up 10 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday in the Young at Heart gift shop at the senior center or by contacting Annie Smutnak on Monday, Wednesday or Friday mornings at the senior center. Funds raised by Young At Heart are used for holiday gift bags, repairs and upkeep at the senior center, fundraising for a new center, and community events.


Young Chautauqua

An informational meeting for the Douglas County Historical Society's Young Chautauqua program is 6-7 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville. Students in fourth through 12th grade choose characters from history to research and perform in the first person. Information, 782-2555.


Antique sale

An antique show and sale with appraisal clinic is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 16 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Genoa Town Hall. Appraisal fee is $5 per item. Admission $1.50. Information, www.genoaevents.com or 782-4951.


Senior health fair

The 11th annual Senior Health Fair is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 27 in the Carson Valley Inn's Shannon Ballroom. The free event is an opportunity to find out about local services and health care providers. Lab work is offered in conjunction with Carson Valley Medical for a small fee payable the day of the fair. Return of 'Hotel Minden'

Performances of the Douglas County Historical Society's "Hotel Minden II, or Divorce Mill" melodrama are 6 p.m. Jan. 29 and 30, and 1 p.m. Jan. 31. Cost of lasagna dinner shows is $25 or $20 for DCHS members. Cost of hot dog lunch matinee is $15. Tickets at Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville.
