Learn set design

The Brewery Arts Center hosts a set design workshop 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the BAC Performance Hall, 511 W. King St., Carson City. Learn about set design, construction, how to set up base camp and save time on the set. Workshop instructors are John Procaccini and Amber Stinebrink. Cost is $75 or $67.50 for BAC members. Cast for successful fishing

Learn about casting mechanics, knots, fishing gear, area entomology, how to read water, and proper catch and release techniques at a fly fishing course beginning Tuesday at The Angler's Edge in Gardnerville. Classes are 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays through Feb. 16. Couples are encouraged to attend. Class size is limited for individual attention. Equipment provided. Cost is $125. Strike a pose

A variety of styles of yoga classes are taught by Jill Mustacchio and staff at the Yoga Loft, 1528 Highway 395, Suite 200, Gardnerville. Also offered is Yoga for Cancer Warriors, noon to 1 p.m., on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at the Yoga Loft. Performances of the Douglas County Historical Society's "Hotel Minden II, or Divorce Mill" melodrama are 6 p.m. Jan. 29 and 30, and 1 p.m. Jan. 31. Laissez les bons temps rouler

Let the good times roll at the second annual Mardi Gras Magic dinner and dance to benefit Austin's House, 6 p.m. Feb. 12, in the Shannon Ballroom at the Carson Valley Inn. Adopt a horse

Eighteen saddle-trained horses from the ranges of Nevada are available through an adoption event, Feb. 13 at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City. The event is hosted by the Bureau of Land Management, the Nevada Department of Agriculture & the Nevada Department of Corrections. Corral opens at 9 a.m. Competitive bid adoption at 10 a.m. Bids begin at $150.

The horses are 3-6 years old and have 120 days of saddle training by inmates in the corrections program. Information and a catalog of BLM wild horses at www.blm.gov/nv and at BLM offices. Prequalify for adoptions at 885-6146.


Check out raptors

The eighth annual Eagles and Agricultural event is Feb. 19-21. Events include the birds of prey lecture, chartered bus tours to working ranches, owl prowl and bird demonstrations, photo workshop and a boat trip on the Carson River.
