A memorial service is 11 a.m. today at Hilltop Community Church for Nathan Starr Vandermade, 22, who died Dec. 30, 2009, in Reno.

Mr. Vandermade was born April 30, 1987, in Carson City, to Jan and Gena Vandermade and was a resident of Carson Valley and most recently of Reno. He was a senior at the University of Nevada, Reno, majoring in economics.

He graduated from Douglas High School in 2005 where he participated in soccer, photography, art design and aspired to be an architect. He was a member of the youth program at Hilltop Community Church during high school.

Mr. Vandermade won Northern Nevada state amateur titles as a motocross racer, and enjoyed surfing, snowboarding, skateboarding, wakeboarding and golf.

Mr. Vandermade is survived by his parents, siblings Nic and Erin, nephew Asher, two grandmothers, seven uncles, 10 aunts, 18 cousins, and other extended family.

Hilltop Community Church is at 3588 Romans Road, off North Sunridge Drive in Indian Hills.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the "In Memory of Nate" account No. 501008379290 at Bank of America. Proceeds will be directed to a mentoring program benefiting Carson Valley youth.
