Robert Edward Lechien

A celebration of life memorial service is 10 a.m. July 31 at Hilltop Community Church for Gardnerville resident Robert E. (Bob) Lechien, 77, who died July 12, 2010.

Mr. Lechien was born in San Diego County on Feb. 2, 1933, to Nickolas and Marie Lechien.

He retired from the San Diego County Sheriff Department after 26 years of service, then worked another 20 years at FlowServe Engineering in Temecula, Calif.

Mr. Lechien and his wife Linda moved to Gardnerville in 2001, where he was active in the Douglas County Citizen Patrol and Carson Valley Footprinters, and attended Hilltop Community Church.

He was an avid fisherman and active in the Australian shepherd rescue program. The Leichens enjoyed traveling with the Good Sam Desert Vagabonds and Washoe Winnies RV chapters.

Mr. Lechien is survived by wife Linda, sister Yvonne Lechien, daughters Valerie Jeffrey and Sharyn Boles, stepsons Richard, Tim and David Slater, 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Hilltop Community Church is at 3588 Romans Road, Carson City.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Citizen Patrol, c/o Douglas County Sheriff's Office, P.O. Box 218, Minden, NV 89423.

Walton's of Carson City is in charge of arrangements.
