Valentine's Day dance at Sharkey's

Mile High Jazz Band Association presents Lucky Diamond and the Gents o' Jive, 7-11 p.m. Feb. 14, at Sharkey's Casino, 1440 Highway 395, Gardnerville.

Hot jazz band the Gents o' Jive play dance music from the Roaring '20s to today. The Gents are Dan Lancaster on sax, clarinet, and flute; John Dykstra on trumpet and flugelhorn; Jimmy Vermillion on keyboard; Joe La Chew on guitar; and Mark Ashworth, aka Lucky Diamond, on drums.

Concert series continues

The Carson Valley Arts Council's fourth annual concert series continues with the Great Basin Brass, 7 p.m. Feb. 12, at the CVIC Hall, 1602 Esmeralda Ave., in Minden. Doors open at 6 p.m. for a no-host reception. Tickets are $20 for nonmembers, $17 for members, available at www.cvartscouncil.com and at the door. Concert benefits the Carson Valley Arts Council.

Dakota's 'Odd Couple' opens Feb. 19

The Dakota Organization's production of Neil Simon's "The Odd Couple" runs Feb. 19-28 at the CVIC Hall in downtown Minden. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19, 20, 26, 27, and 2 p.m. Feb. 21 and 28. Musical revue auditions

Auditions for the Carson Valley Community Theater's musical revue, "Broadway Through the Decades," are 6-9 p.m. Feb. 24 and 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 27 at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden. Auditions open to singers and dancers of all ages for the show of songs from Broadway shows from 1900s to present, presented May 14-23 at the CVIC Hall in Minden. Bring two Broadway songs - a ballad and an upbeat song - with sheet music, tape or CD for accompaniment. A role for a female of 60-plus years also auditioned. Dance extravaganza Saturday

Sierra Ballet Theatre Co. presents their fourth annual "A Dance Extravaganza" at 6 p.m. Satruday and Feb. 27, at the MontBleu Theater in Stateline. The performance includes three ballets: the contemporary "Rachmaninoff," traditional "Sogno Dei Contadini," and flamenco-inspired "Malaguena." Also on the program are contemporary, lyrical and Bollywood-style jazz dances and the "Cakewalk" ballet.

The 22-member Sierra Ballet Theatre's production is choreographed by artistic director Kelly O'Fallon, ballet mistress Irma O'Fallon and previous soloists from the company. Ticket information, 588-3515.
