Edgewood Companies supports community with donations

Edgewood Companies has announced the recipient organizations of its 2010 holiday giving campaign.

Focusing on groups that reach out to the less fortunate in the community, particularly children and the hungry, Edgewood Companies selected 13 nonprofits from around the South Lake Tahoe area. Each received a donation ranging from $1,000 to $2,500, for a total of $21,000.

The organizations are Austin's House, which provides shelter and care for up to 10 children between the ages of birth to 18; Boys & Girls Clubs of South Lake Tahoe and Carson City, which inspire young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens; Carson Valley Community Food Closet, a food bank in Gardnerville; CASA El Dorado, a court appointed special advocate program for abused and neglected children; Christmas Cheer, a year-round food distribution center; Douglas County Senior Services, committed to creating opportunities that allow older residents of Douglas County to remain independent and active; Salvation Army, which helped more than 30 million people with life's basic necessities in 2008; South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center, which aims to enable individuals and families to achieve self-sufficiency; South Lake Tahoe Women's Center, dedicated to improving the emotional, social, and economic condition of women and families in the community; St. Gall and Our Lady of Tahoe Catholic churches, which distribute food, clothing, furniture and more to the needy; and Tahoe Youth and Family Services, which promotes the healthy development of children, youth, and families by providing counseling, education and support services

"At the holidays, everyone at Edgewood Companies is able to give thanks for how fortunate we are, but every year we try to help those who need a hand," said Jan Garcia, human resources manager for Edgewood. "We're proud that we are able to support these amazing organizations that tirelessly assist our community."

With the roots of the company tracing back to 1872, Edgewood Companies is the new identity of Park Cattle Co., one of Nevada's oldest diversified real estate companies. Handed down from generation to generation, the family-controlled Edgewood Companies owns and continues to develop land for housing communities, casino resorts, and other properties, including the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course & Restaurant and more 4,500 acres of ranch land in Carson Valley.
