For the first time of the season the snow level if forecast for 9,000 feet as a big cold front is expected to arrive from the Gulf of Alaska. Expect a temperature drop of 30-40 degrees this weekend, with highs in the 50s and 60s. Showers and thunderstorms will accompany the storm.
Our fire weather watch has turned into a red flag warning, starting at 11 a.m. today until midnight, as the front rolls through the area, bringing winds 15-25 mph with gusts of up to 40 mph. A fire weather watch has been set for Friday afternoon. Don't be surprised if the red flag goes up then. Adding to the fire danger are scattered dry thunderstorms near the Interstate 80 corridor. The good news? For those of us further south, the storms will be wetter.
Today's forecast is for a slight chance of thunderstorms before noon. Otherwise it will be partly cloudy with a high near 91, and windy.
