The R-C Morning Report

Today is the first day of elementary school in Carson Valley. The buses will be out a little later than they will be Monday when the Valley's secondary schools start. Slow down for the school zones, and watch out for children crossing the street on their way to school.

Today is also the last day to bring by your Best Of ballots.

The Wolf Creek fire is up to 900 acres and the plan is to let it burn through the fall until a proper snow or rain storm falls on it. There may be some smoke coming from the fire that's visible in places, according to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch. Wolf Creek Trail is open, but the Dixon Creek drainage has been closed to public access.

There is another red flag warning for today through the Sierra Front starting at 1 p.m. The National Weather Service is forecasting gusty winds and low humidity through Western Nevada, Mono and Alpine counties. Expect winds to increase to 15-25 mph gusting to 35-40 mph tonight.

Expect today to be sunny with a high in the upper 80s, with the highest wind gusts in the late afternoon and evening before 9 p.m.
