Wine makers win awards at fair

Gardnerville Ranchos residents Archie and Peggy Reed took home awards from this year's Nevada State Fair in August.

Archie Reed won a gold medal for his Amarone red wine and a silver medal for his Barbera white wine.

Peggy Reed won Best Label for her Dragon's Lair design for her husband's wine labels.

Students from Archie Reed's wine making class also won awards for their first attempts of making wine. Ron and Michelle Stevens of Wellington won a gold medal for their Amarone. Deb and Steve Hammons of Silver Springs won a silver medal for their merlot.

Wine making classes offered

Gardnerville wine maker Archie Reed teaches how to make wine beginning 7 p.m. Oct. 13 at Curves, 1540 Highway 395, Suite 1, Gardnerville.

The five-week course costs $300 and includes everything needed to make wine except bottles. The wine ingredient kit offers 15 choices of white and red wines.

Expect to make 30 bottles of the wine of your choice and have the equipment and knowledge to make wine at home for $2 per bottle.
