The R-C Morning Report

Last night I could see drift smoke peeking up over the Pine Nuts. According to the NOAA smoke analyzer, the 140,150-acre Station fire in the Angeles National Forest is sending smoke to pretty much every corner of Nevada.

Meanwhile firefighters are getting a handle on the Big Meadow fire in Yosemite, though Tioga Road through park is closed from White Wolf to Big Oak Flat Road through the Labor Day weekend. That means you can't get to Yosemite Valley from Lee Vining, you have to cross the Sierra elsewhere and drive in from the west. Tuolomne Meadows is still open from the west.

Douglas County commissioners meet 1 p.m. today at the Douglas County Administrative Building, 1616 Eighth St. in Minden. The big item on the agenda today will be establishing interim water rates for Sheridan Acres and Jobs Peak Ranch residents and the presentation of proposed sewer rates for the North Valley Wastewater Facility. The most interesting thing on the agenda is the widening of northbound Highway 395 from two lanes to three from Sunridge to Clear Creek.

It was pretty cloudy on Wednesday for what was supposed to be a sunny day. The National Weather Service is predicting it will be sunny again today. We'll see. Expect the high to reach for 90 in Minden.
