The R-C Morning Report

Douglas County's two-day budget hearing wraps up today, starting at 5 p.m. Tonight the county kicks off with the East Fork Fire & Paramedic Districts, then the enterprise funds, road funds and capital construction, wrapping up with the redevelopment agency. They're expecting to go until 8:30 p.m.

The big Kahuna on today's planning commission agenda is a master plan and zoning map amendment changing 37.75 acres of receiving area, 20.15 acres of agriculture and 1.79 acres of public right of way to commercial property for Peri Enterprises. They are so far silent on what they intend to do with all that commercial property. Planning commissioners meet at 1 p.m. in the Douglas County Administrative Building, 1616 Eighth St.

Meanwhile, Douglas County School Board trustees are discussing their tentative budget. The big bite for the school district will be a projected decrease by 189 students down to 6,266. The tax rate will remain the same.

It looks like today will be decent with a high of 55 degrees under mostly sunny skies and a light west wind.
