The R-C Morning Report

Douglas County commissioners meet in Minden starting 1 p.m. today. Among the items on their agenda, which times out at more than six hours, are the abandonment of 25 feet of the right of way along Carson Street in Genoa and a presentation on the county's emergency management role in dealing with swine flu. Commissioners meet in the old Minden courthouse on Eighth Street.

The reason commissioners didn't award the $3.73 million contract to build the new jail at their last meeting was because a rival construction firm is protesting. APCO Construction was listed as the preferred bidder, but K7 Construction is not letting it go. Commissioners will spend at least 30 minutes sorting it all out this afternoon.

Another cold front, which could bring snow showers to the Valley floor, is headed this way over the weekend, with a chance of accumulations north of Highway 50 and in the Sierra. High temperatures will drop to the upper 40s or lower 50s. Expect the winds to pick up again on Saturday morning.

The temperature this morning is 28 degrees in Minden, 31 degrees in Genoa and the Ranchos and 32 degrees in Fish Springs. Today's high will warm up into the mid-60s under sunny skies. Expect the low to dip below freezing again tonight before the cloud cover rolls in and keeps the heat in on Friday night.
