The R-C Morning Report

There's a slight chance of snow after 10 p.m. tonight and then nothing until next Thursday. Heavenly Ski Resort is planning to open on Nov. 20. They got 4 inches out of the last storm and are sitting on a base depth of 18 inches of snow. Kirkwood isn't ready to get attached to a date yet, but hopes to open between Thanksgiving and Dec. 1.

Snowpack is just getting started in the mountains with the Ebbetts Pass snow telemetry reading 7 inches on the ground this morning. Maintained by the Natural Resources Conservations Service, the sensors are located in the Sierra to predict how much water is in the snow. So far those 7 inches are pretty dry, holding just under an inch of water.

Today will be mostly sunny with a high temperature in the upper 40s. It will be in the 20s overnight, and the high will be cooler on Saturday. Expect it to be really cold on Saturday night with a low of 15 degrees. At sunrise it's 25 degrees in Genoa, 23 degrees in Minden and a balmy 27 in the Gardnerville Ranchos.
