49 apply for Minden manager job

Minden Town Board members are sifting through 49 applications for the community's new town manager position.

"There are some really good, qualified people out there," said Steve Thaler who helped organize the search for the new position set to be filled early next year.

The salary range is $74,246-$99,756, plus benefits, depending on experience.

The application deadline was Monday.

The county's human resources department is reviewing the applications to make sure all qualifications were met before turning over the list to town board members.

The town board approved a schedule Wednesday to review all qualified applications and winnow the list down to a list of most qualified.

Those applicants would be interviewed by a panel of two town board members, the human resources supervisor and two town residents.

As a result of that process, the top three candidates will be forwarded to the town board for public interviews at the Jan. 6 meeting.

An employment offer would be made to the top candidate following a background check.

Officials hope to have the new manager at work in March or April.

With the departure of three veteran town board members at the end of next year, officials felt it was time to bring on a manager, similar to the function served by Gardnerville Town Manager Jim Park.

Applicants' expenses will not be paid, nor will the new manager be offered a relocation package.
