3 Minden finalists to be interviewed Tuesday

Minden Town Board members are set to interview three finalists at a special meeting Tuesday in their selection process for a town manager.

The three candidates are:

-- Lisa Granahan, Minden, assistant to the Douglas County manager;

-- Dave Betley, Boulder City, manager of engineering, Clark County Department of Development Services;

-- Roger Van Alyne, Gardnerville, deputy director of Washoe County Public Works until his position was eliminated in June.

Board Chairman Bob Hadfield said the meeting would begin at 6:45 p.m. in the CVIC Hall with an overview of the hiring process by county Human Resources Manager Darcy Worms.

That will be followed by half-hour interviews with each candidate. Betley's interview is at 7 p.m., Granahan 7:30 p.m., and Van Alyne at 8 p.m.

At the end of that process, town board members will rank each candidate.

The interviews are open to the public, but Hadfield said public comment won't be taken until the interviews are concluded.

Board members Steve Thaler and Ross Chichester are authorized to negotiate a salary and start date and complete any final background checks with a formal appointment to be made at the March 3 meeting.

The finalists were selected from 49 applicants for the new position which pays $74,246-$99,756 plus benefits.

With the departure of three veteran town board members at the end of the year, officials felt it was time to bring on a manager, similar to the function served by Gardnerville Town Manager Jim Park.

The town board will meet in regular session Wednesday. The only agenda item is a 7 p.m. discussion on a new monument sign for Carson Valley Inn.
