Forecast calls for more thunderstorms

Heavy rain and quarter-sized hail fell near Sheridan Acres Friday night. Weather watcher George Ubele reported .68 inches of rain fell between 6 and 6:33 p.m. as a thunderstorm drifted around Carson Valley. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain fell in Fish Springs at 7:33 p.m. The weather station at Meneley Elementary School in the Gardnerville Ranchos recorded .3 inches of rain on Friday.

The Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center in Minden reported that firefighters suppressed a few small wildfires set by lightning near Bridgeport. So far all the fires are small and are being handled by local units. Nearly a dozen fires were set by lightning, most of which were single trees.

Expect more of the same today, according to the National Weather Service. There's a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms through Sunday night, increasing to 30 percent on Memorial Day. Thunderstorms will remain in the forecast through next week.
