Honoring veterans

Valley Christian Fellowship honors veterans during their church service, 10 a.m. Sunday, at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School, 701 Long Valley Road in the Gardnerville Ranchos. The Nevada National Guard honor guard is featured during service and at the 1 p.m. hot dog and hamburger barbecue and pot luck in Aspen Park.

Food provided for veterans, others are encouraged to bring a side dish to share. Information, 265-4100.


Poster contest

Original art on the theme of Carson Valley ranching heritage is needed for the Town of Genoa and the Carson Valley Arts Council's poster contest for the Genoa Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival.

Farmers markets

Weekly Valley farmers markets feature fruits, vegetables, flowers, bakery items, gifts, outdoor decor, music and food.

The Minden Farmers Market is open 4-8 p.m. Tuesdays through summer between Fourth and Fifth streets in downtown Minden. Information, Roxanne, 782-2444 or Kregg, 782-9814.

The Gardnerville Farmers Market is 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays in Lampe Park. Information at the Douglas County Parks & Recreation office, 782-9828.

 

Museum lecture Thursday

Carson Valley native Laurie Hickey discusses the Emigrant Trail, 7 p.m. July 9, at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville. The Douglas County Historical Society's lecture is the second Thursday of the month. Admission is $3, free for historical society members. The museum and the Main Street Book Store are open before and after the one-hour lecture. Information, 782-2555.


Rummage sale donations

St. Gall Catholic Church is accepting donations for their annual rummage sale on Aug. 7 and 8. Drop off items behind the pastoral center, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. For large item pickup or information, 782-2852.


Movie in the park July 10

'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' is the free movie in Heritage Park at dusk July 10. Vendors include Boy Scout Troop 411, Cold Stone Creamery, DHS Music Boosters, Centerfield Sports Bar & Grill. The next movie in the park is 'The Wizard of Oz' on July 31. Antique show

The Genoa Antique Show and Sale with appraisal clinic is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 11 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 12 at the Genoa Town Hall. Admission, $1.50. Event in part benefits Carson Valley Pops Orchestra. Information, 782-4951.


Concert in the park

The 13th annual Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department's free family concert series continues with Rick Hays & American Steel, 6:30-8:30 p.m. July 17, in Minden Park. Bring a low-backed chair and a picnic. Food from Lion's Club available for purchase. Information, 782-9828.
