The R-C Morning Report

The new chairwoman of the Indian Hills General Improvement District came out swinging at a workshop to set goals and objectives for the district manager.

Dianne Humble said she wanted Jim Taylor to work on a plan to privatize the district's sewer and water operations, which she said would save it $400,000.

Gardnerville's own version of Bernie Madoff is scheduled to be in Douglas County District Court this morning for sentencing on securities fraud and conducting business as an unlicensed broker. Stephen J. Hadaway could be eligible for probation today if he succeeded in raising enough money to cover his restitution. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. Charges were brought in 1999 by the state, but Hadaway took off for Chile. He bilked the victim out of $67,000, but made a $35,000 payment in July.

Not a cloud in sight as far as the forecast is concerned. Expect sunny skies today with a high of 57 degrees. According to the National Weather Service, that's what we can expect through next Monday. This morning it's clear with 19 degrees in Minden and 22 degrees in Genoa.
