The R-C Morning Report

A South Lake Tahoe man who admitted to the brutal murder of his ex-girlfriend will be in district court for sentencing this afternoon. Ramiro Galicia, 36, is scheduled to appear before District Judge Michael Gibbons at 2 p.m. on charges he laid in wait for 22-year-old Jazmin Gonzalez on Nov. 19, 2006, in a room she was cleaning at the Horizon Casino Resort. Gonzalez received a protective order against Galicia three weeks prior to her murder. Galicia faces life in prison without parole or 50 years with a chance at parole after 20 years.

A red flag fire warning was issued for 1-6 p.m. today. Winds are expected to increase to 15-25 mph with gusts of up to 40 mph as the humidity drops below 15 percent. According to the East Fork Fire and Weather Report, the chance of ignition is 100 percent and flame spread is 117 feet per minute. The only good news is that there shouldn't be any lightning today. The bad news is there's no telling what's smoldering on the mountain just waiting for a strong wind to blow it up into a forest fire.

After the cold front that's bringing the winds passes, temperatures are expected to cool down rapidly, according to the National Weather Service. The high temperature could go as low as 65 degrees on Wednesday and will climb up to 78 degrees in time for Saturday's Carson Valley Days Parade.
