Keith Dale Lowe Sr.

A memorial service is 1 p.m. Saturday at Carson Valley United Methodist Church for Gardnerville resident Keith Dale Lowe Sr., 83, who died Dec. 31, 2008, at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Reno from complications of pneumonia.

Born Aug. 25, 1925 in Huntley, Neb., to Horace and Marvel Lowe, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radio and sonar operator on submarine.

He married Agnes in Orleans, Neb., on Aug. 4, 1948.

Mr. Lowe graduated from the University of Nebraska with majors in physical education and English. He taught school and coached varsity baseball at Cajon High School in California.

He was major league baseball scout for the Houston Colt .45s, New York Yankees, and Arizona Diamondbacks. He was the executive director of the U.S. Open Baseball Tournament. Mr. Lowe was a member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic Committee to help bring baseball to the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

He was a member of Carson Valley United Methodist Church.

He is survived by wife Marjorie Richman-Lowe; sons Keith Lowe II of Gardnerville, Greg Lowe of Santa Barbara Calif., Jon Lowe of Truckee and Jerry Lowe of Minden; daughters Gayle Magee of Carson City, Patty Lowe of Sacramento; brother Loyd Lowe of Huntley, Neb.; sisters Sheryl Hickman of Alma, Neb., Ruth Fristo of St. Louis, Mo., and Martha Ballard of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Donations in Mr. Lowe's name may be made to the Harlan County Foundation Veterans Memorial, 70638 Corp Rd. 22, Republican City, NE 68971 in care of Gary Wheeler.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home was in charge of the cremation.
