A memorial service is 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Carson Valley United Methodist Church for Gardnerville resident Linton C. Whitby Jr., 86, who died July 1, 2010 of a long-term illness.
Born March 13, 1924, in Oakland, Calif., to Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Whitby Sr., he was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
A long-time resident of Reno, he moved to Merrill Gardens three years ago to be near his daughter.
He is survived by daughter Cindy W. (David) Neisess; son William L. (Charlotte Parker) Whitby of Spring Creek; and sister Beatrice Faye Webb of Walnut Creek, Calif.
A military service and interment will be at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley at a later date.
