Funeral service on Veterans Day for Centerville native William Schwake

A funeral service is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church for Centerville native and World War II veteran William F. Schwake, 92, who died at his Minden home on Nov. 4, 2009.

Born on the Schwake home ranch on March 28, 1917, to Henry R. and Charlotte Schwake, he was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the 332nd Engineers Regiment during World War II stationed in the European Theater.

A lifelong Carson Valley resident, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and the Carson Valley Lions Club for 54 years with perfect attendance.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Janet; sisters Elfrieda Small and Ardelle Powell; brothers Walter Schwake and Melvin Schwake Sr.

He is survived by his sister Ruthe Berryman of Reno; sister-in-law Edrie Schwake of Gardnerville; nieces and nephews Keith, Jill and James Berryman, Edrie Felts, Sigrid Pieretti, Fred Schwake, Mel Schwake, Richard Small and two more generations of nieces and nephews.

Interment will be at Garden Cemetery 1 p.m. Wednesday with funeral service to follow.
