Cultural plan

Complimentary pre-dance class

Talent show auditions

Auditions for Talent Show 2009 are 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater. Performance is 7 p.m. March 6. 'Island' musical begins Feb. 27

Performances of the All-City musical, "Once on This Island Jr.," are 7 p.m. Feb. 27, Feb. 28, March 6 and March 7, with 2 p.m. shows on March 1 and March 8, at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School, 701 Long Valley Road in the Gardnerville Ranchos.

'Moonlight' in Carson

The Proscenium Players' production of "Moonlight and Magnolias" by Ron Hutchinson is performed at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27 and 28 at the Donald Reynolds Black Box Theatre at the Brewery Arts Center, 400 West King St., Carson City. Dancers wanted

Square dancers of all abilities are invited to participate in the filming of a documentary on square dancing at the CVIC Hall in Minden on Feb. 28.

The B Sharps documentary film company will shoot a film based on the 61-year career of square dance caller Larry Ward, who recently moved to Carson Valley to teach ballroom and square dancing.

The first session is 2-5 p.m. and will feature exhibitions in square, round and ballroom dancing. There is no charge.

The second session at 7-10 p.m. features rounds between alternating mainstream and plus-square dancing. Cost for the second session is $7.

Children's 'Idol'

Singers, dancers, musicians, gymnasts, and solo variety acts, age 6-17, for Wild Horse Children's Theater's Capital City Idol Talent Competition at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada on March 14.

Idol contestant closed preliminaries start at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 28. Competition finalists perform and compete for prizes at 6:30 p.m. March 14.

Swing dance

High Sierra Swing Dance Club's Heartbeat Ball is Feb. 28 at the Brewery Arts Center's Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St., Carson City. 'Annoyance!' comedy at CVI

The Dakota Organization presents the adult comedy "Annoyance!" by Sam Bobrick at the Carson Valley Inn on March 12-15.

In pursuit of mental stability, an annoying man drives two therapists over the edge. The Dakota Organization's dinner theater features Jody Paslov, Teri Lynn and Dave Anderson.

"Annoyance!" is performed at a Thursday evening show only, two dinner shows and a Sunday champagne brunch.

Performances are: 7:30 p.m. March 12 show, $18 general admission, seniors 60-plus $15; 6:30 p.m. March 13 and 14 dinner shows, $45 general, $40 seniors; and 11:30 a.m. March 15 champagne brunch show, $45 general, $40 seniors.

Arts council concert series

The Carson Valley Arts Council concert series continues with jazz and blues guitarist Chris Cain on March 13 at the CVIC Hall, 1602 Esmeralda in Minden. A wine, beer and cheese reception sponsored by Tahoe Ridge Winery is at 6 p.m. Desserts by Bravo Cafe & Bakery served at 8:30 p.m. Admission is a $15 donation at the door. Information, 782-8207.


'Cats' in Carson

Carson Performing Arts performs the Broadway musical "Cats" at the Carson Community Center's Bob Boldrick theater. Performances are 7:30 p.m. March 27, 28, April 3, 4 and 2 p.m. March 29 and April 5.

'Hollywood Arms'

Carson Valley Community Theatre presents the Broadway play, "Hollywood Arms," at the CVIC Hall in Minden.

The comedic drama was written by Carol Burnett and daughter Carrie Hamilton and is based on Burnett's 1986 memoir, "One More Time."
