Woman allowed into drug court

A 30-year-old Indian Hills woman who chased her ex-husband down the street with a 12-inch butcher knife was accepted for Western Regional Drug Court after she was found with methamphetamine during a probation check.

District Judge Dave Gamble told Leeann Lepage successfully completing drug court had to be her top priority.

"For a time, this getting control of your addiction has to be the most important thing in your life - more important than your kids or getting a job, or you will have no kids or job," Gamble said.

Lepage is serving a sentence in Douglas County Jail for a domestic battery conviction. She admitted chasing her former husband with the knife last October because she was tired of him kicking in her front door and stealing property. There were no injuries.

Lepage said her children were living with her mother.

"My way of living got me here," she said. "I need a better way of life than getting high and not taking care of the kids."

If Lepage succeeds in drug court, she won't have a felony conviction for possession of a controlled substance.
