Probation, restitution ordered in credit fraud

A 22-year-old Gardnerville woman was sentenced Tuesday to five years probation and ordered to pay nearly $5,600 restitution for using a credit card without the cardholders' consent.

Jacklyn Thun admitted to District Judge Dave Gamble that she conned the victims, but wanted to make good.

"I apologize to the victims," Thun said. "I am sorry for what I've done. I stole something that didn't belong to me."

"Like 100 times," Gamble said. "It was all together a fake kind of life you were living. You are kind of a con artist. You were using people rather than living your own life. You were telling people stories to get money from them."

He sentenced Thun to two consecutive terms of 12-24 months in prison that he suspended and placed her on 10 years probation.

She is to pay $5,581.91 restitution at $250 a month and complete Western Nevada Regional Drug Court.

In a letter to the court, one of Thun's victims said he filed for bankruptcy due to her actions.

"Your future is going to be very difficult because of these convictions you've brought on yourself, but it's not impossible," Gamble said.

He ordered Thun to abstain from drugs and alcohol during probation and told her she may not have a credit card.

She pleaded guilty to two felony charges.
