The Morning R-C

Highway 28 between Spooner Junction and Sand Harbor reopened last night after work crews repaired a washout in the road caused by a broken sewer pipe. Now it's just a matter of tallying up the bill for fixing the newly refurbished highway.

The Gardnerville Town Board kicks off meeting week at 4:30 p.m. today. They'll be talking about Eddy Street, which is done, and hear a presentation on the Douglas County Conservation bill. Town board members meet in their offices on Highway 395.

Genoa's Town Board will meet at 7 p.m. to move some money around, including adding $50,000 to the town's budget to pay $15,000 for grant writing services, $15,000 for the proposed Genoa cowboy poetry and music festival and $20,000 to work on the church foundation. There's also an item authorizing $2,000 for the Sierra Philharmonic League to help defray the costs of Pops in the Park and $500 for the Douglas County Historical Society to help build a ramp for the Genoa Courthouse Museum.

A potentially dangerous situation is developing in the forecast today and Wednesday with a fire weather watch and a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service. A low pressure system will start to move into the area, bringing gusty winds and low humidity for Western Nevada. Add to that dry lightning from isolated thunderstorms and we could be looking at some serious fires.
