Help needed planting wildflowers

The Northern Mono Chamber of Commerce has undertaken an energetic project to rebeautify part of our community. They have purchased wildflower seeds which will be planted in the locations burned in last year's fire near Larson Lane and between the Meadowcliff Lodge and Coleville. The seeds will be spread Sunday, April 13, and the chamber is looking for volunteers to help make it all happen that day.

All you need to bring is a rake to help spread the seeds. The group will be meeting at Meadowcliff, 2 p.m. The project won't take an extremely long time if there are plenty of volunteers, so please try to go and help them cover those areas with beautiful flowers for residents and travelers alike to enjoy.

Memorial service

I have learned that the memorial service for longtime resident Jo Duxbury will take place at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 12. The service will be held at the Walker Community Center. I'm sure that her daughter, Dianne, will appreciate the kind thoughts and friendship of those attending.

Board of supervisors

Every month the board of supervisors holds an evening meeting in one of the communities they represent. The meeting for this month will be April 15, 6 p.m., at the Walker Community Center. Since we don't all drive to their regular meetings in Bridgeport, this is a great opportunity to hear what is going on that may affect our area. Please come and hear what they have to tell us, as well as some matters possibly presented by Antelope Valley residents.

Little League

Our local team in the Carson Valley Little League is the Marlins. They had their first league game on April 1. Unfortunately, they lost that one 13-4, but they came roaring back on April 3 and won that game by a score of 11-1. The kids are really enjoying the Little League experience, and they just keep getting better. Go, Marlins!

Cow pasture golf

Well, the Lions Club did it again. Their annual Cow Pasture Golf Tournament was held last Saturday, and I could see that a good time was had by all when they came in from the "course" for the delicious sparerib lunch that was served. The Lions really appreciated the donations of raffle prizes by Mason Valley Golf Course, Carson Valley Golf Course, Iron Horse Cantina and Topaz Lodge. The prizes ranged from rounds of golf to meals and gasoline. This is always an event that you shouldn't miss, even if you don't play golf.

Fishing season almost here

The West Walker River will open for fishing on Saturday, April 26, so get your license and head to the river. There will have been generous plants of large trout, so it should be a fun opening day.

Fish fry dinner

The Northern Mono Chamber of Commerce is holding a community dinner at the Walker Community Center, Friday, April 25. This is the perfect way to have a fun meal the night before trout season opens. Better yet, it's great not to have to cook dinner that night. Enjoy!
