Fishing season opens April 25 on the West Walker River

April 25 is the opening of fishing season on the West Walker River, and we are happily awaiting the big day. That evening, beginning 5 p.m. at the Walker Community Center, the Northern Mono Chamber of Commerce will hold a fish fry dinner in celebration. This will be followed at approximately 7 p.m. by a poker night, sponsored by the Antelope Valley Survivors of the Relay for Life. Judging by the previous poker nights, it will be a fun time for all. Try to be there for both events.

Eastern Sierra Corridor workshop

From 1-3:30 p.m., Thursday, April 23, the Walker Community Center will be the location of a public workshop to discuss and make suggestions for the enhancement of the Highway 395 corridor in our area. You are invited and urged to be there for your input.

ATV Jamboree needs volunteers

The Northern Mono Chamber of Commerce is looking for volunteers for the Eastern Sierra ATV Jamboree being held June 19-21. They need people to help with registration, morning breakfasts (cooks and servers), Saturday dinner, and guides for the ATV rides (must have your own ATV). For information, call Tim at (530) 208-6078.

Busy holiday weekend for bargains

The Walker Mini Mall will be the location of two benefit sales on Memorial Day weekend. May 22-24, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3567 will hold their annual fundraiser to support the Veterans Hospital and Spouse House in Reno. They will have a big yard sale, and would appreciate any donations except heavy furniture. If you need donations picked up, you can call (530) 495-2149. They will greatly appreciate your help and support.

May 23, the Antelope Valley Friends of the Library is having a big book sale. There will be many really great books available for next to nothing prices. If you like to read, be sure to check it out.

Pasture golf tournament a success again

On a morning that started out chilly, the ninth annual Jackie Giorgi Pasture Golf Tournament took place. As always, it was a great day of fun golf and great food. You don't want to miss out on this unusual tournament that is held on the first Saturday of every April, with the funds raised all going to a scholarship fund for Coleville High School graduates.

This and that

Congratulations to James Gonzalez and Robert Lesley, as well as the other students from Antelope elementary and middle schools, who participated in the California State Spelling Bee April 2. You did us proud.

We hope you all had a very happy Easter.
