Powder Puff game tonight

Douglas High School Mountain Madness, which annually features the girls' Powder Puff football game, is slated for tonight with festivities beginning at 6 p.m.

More than 110 girls signed up for the football game, which pits the junior class against the senior class every June with members of the Douglas High varsity football team serving as coaches.

The senior class won 28-12 last year. That class pulled off an upset in 2005 as juniors, becoming the first junior class to win the game, taking a 12-8 victory.

Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Douglas High baseball field, since construction is ongoing at the football field.

Admission is $5 per person, $4 for students with an ASB card and $15 for a family.

Other events include a tug-of-war contest, set for 7:30 p.m., a milk chug contest set for 8 p.m. and a lip sync contest scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

Among the highlights of the night will be longtime Douglas High sports announcer Ken Carr making his last appearance to announce the game. He will be retiring from the school district, and from announcing, after this year.
