Shirley Ann Hubbard

1932-2007

A private family service is planned for Shirley Hubbard, 75, who died March 9, 2007, at her home in Gardnerville.

Mrs. Hubbard was born Feb. 29, 1932, in Hamilton County, Ohio, to Roy and Mary Holt. She graduated from Newton Falls High School in 1950 where she was active in band, drama and speech. She attended Kent State University where she received a degree in elementary education. She taught elementary school in Warren and Cleveland, Ohio. She married Dick Hubbard in 1956 and moved to California where she resided in Susanville, El Cerrito, Fresno and Albany. She taught elementary school in Susanville, was a substitute teacher, Campfire Girl leader, a volunteer Pink Lady, Sunday school teacher and school parent volunteer.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Dick Hubbard, 2000, in Gardnerville; her two brothers Roy and Edward Holt and her parents. She is survived by her daughter Denise Frueh and her husband Len Frueh of Gardnerville; daughter Teresa Miranda and her husband Daniel Miranda of Susanville, Calif., as well as five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Arrangements are in the care of Capital City Cremation and Burial Society in Carson City.

Richard H. "Dick" Nalder

1925-2007

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville for Richard H. "Dick" Nalder, 81, who died March 16, 2007, in Gardnerville.

Mr. Nalder, a native of Nevada and Carson Valley resident for 61 years, was born Sept. 30, 1925 in Midas to Charles and Irene Nalder. He was raised on the Squaw Valley ranch near Midas where he began his schooling in a one-room school house on the ranch. In his teens, his mother ran a boarding house in Midas. He lived in Battle Mountain and graduated from Battle Mountain High School. During World War II, he joined the Army Air Corps at the age of 17 and served in the China-Burma-India theater with the 10th Air Force. His tour of duty kept him in India after the war and he was there during the Indian revolt against the British.

He moved to Carson Valley in 1946 and went to work for his brother-in-law, Bob Morris, hauling ore from the Alpine Mine in Hope Valley to the Monarch Mills in the Pine Nuts. In the winters he hauled supplies to the miners at the Alpine Mine by skiing in and out from Picketts Junction. He married Alice Micheo in 1950 and moved to a ranch on Foothill Road. He raised cows, sheep and ran heavy equipment for the rest of his life. In 1967 he met his soulmate for life, Alis Long. Together they raised his five boys and shared 40 memorable years together.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Phillip, his first wife Alice and his sister JoAnn. He is survived by his wife Alis, his sons Richard, Michael, Steven and Daniel; daughter Kate Lynskey, all of Gardnerville; two sisters Virginia and Maxine as well as 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Douglas County Mortuary in Minden. Burial will be at the Mottsville Cemetery in Minden. There will be a reception at the Nalder residence at 1375 Home Lane following the brief family service at the cemetery.

Connie J. Wennhold

1956-2007

A celebration of life will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville, for Connie J. Wennhold, 50, a 28-year resident of Douglas County, who died March 14, 2007, at her home in Gardnerville.

Mrs. Wennhold was born Sept. 7, 1956, in Spokane, Wash., to Richard and Jody Hix. She married George Wennhold, March 23, 1985, in Gardnerville. She was a current Douglas County School Board trustee, current chairman of the Partnership of Community Resources, businesswoman, Boy Scouts of America Troop 495 committee chair, community service volunteer, mother, homemaker, multi-tasker and doer-of-the-word.

She was a member of the Carson Valley United Methodist Church and a member of the Northern California/Nevada Emmaus community and Moms in Touch school prayer support group.

She held a bachelor of science degree in horticulture from Washington State University in Pullman, Wash. She graduated cum laude from WSU and was the school's "Aggie of the Year for 1978." She was certified by FTD as a senior floral designer.

She enjoyed her family time, volunteer service, community service, church service, scrapbooking, WSU sports activities and travel with her family.

Mrs. Wennhold is survived by her husband, George Wennhold, of Gardnerville; sons Adam Wennhold of Davis, Calif., and Aaron Wennhold of Gardnerville; mother Jody Hix of Gardnerville; brothers Charles R. "Chuck" Hix and wife Cathy Bonneville Hix of Fairfax, Va., and Thomas "Tom" Hix and wife Deanne of Spokane, Wash.; four nieces and many family members and the family cats who were home when she died.

Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home.
