John "Jack" McAvoy


1932-2007


A Masonic memorial service will be noon Saturday at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, for John "Jack" McAvoy, 74, who died Feb. 5, 2007, in Gardnerville.


Mr. McAvoy was born Aug. 21, 1932, in Los Angeles, to Arthur John and Lena Ethel "Tarver" McAvoy.


He graduated from high school in Hollywood, Calif. He spent his career as an operating engineer, Local 12 in Los Angeles.


He married Patricia McAvoy January 1977 in Pomona, Calif., and they lived in West Covina, Calif., before moving to Gardnerville 16 years ago.


He was a Master Mason Carson Valley No. 33, Greenleaf No. 670 in Whittier, Calif., Scottish Rite in Pasadena, Calif., Almalaikah Shrine in Los Angeles as well as BPOE No. 2670.


He is survived by his wife Patricia McAvoy of Gardnerville; son John McAvoy of Jackson, Wyo.; daughter Bonnie Itahara of West Covina, Calif.; step-daughter Ginette Wirtz of Hesperia, Calif.; step-son D. Vondrachek of Apple Valley, Calif.; sister Maxine and her husband Russell Dickenson of Bellvue, Wash.; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and niece Victoria Barber and nephew Russell Dickenson Jr.


Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Douglas County Mortuary.


Cremation will take place at Walton's Sierra Crematory in Carson City. Memorial donations can be made to the Kerak Shrine.
