The boom of thunder can be heard in Carson Valley as a string of thunderstorms makes its way north from the Sierra. Two concentrations of heavy activity are appearing on the National Weather Service's Web site at 4 p.m.
The storm stretches from Mammoth Lakes in the south to Truckee in the north.
