Chili cookoff coming up

Spring is on the way. So, if you want to jump-start your summer taste buds come to the 15th annual Carson Valley Sertoma Chili Cookoff and Craft Fair 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 28-29 to see and talk to some champion chili cooks. You'll be able to have the famous "Sertoma Chili Con-Carne" along with the normal fare of hamburgers, hot dogs, chili dogs, plus beer, wine and soft drinks.

For the third year the cookoff will take place at the Carson Valley Inn in the lot behind the RV Park. Remember, beside the world-class chili cooks, you can also visit the many vendors (about 70 booths) who will be selling a wide variety of unique crafts and gifts.

Live music will begin at noon provided by the duo, the Carl Morrel Band.

There will be awards for red and green chili, salsa. You can join in Miss Chili Pepper, Mr. Hot Sauce and the Shoot & Holler contest. If you would like to compete, or have a craft booth, you may call Suzy Finnigan or Fritz Rubins at 267-4938 for the chili competition and for the vendor booths.

In addition to several past world champion chili cooks, the reigning world champion will be on hand to share in all the family fun at this event.

Each day there will five raffle drawings for cash and high value prizes. There is no admission charge, there's plenty of parking and a parking lot shuttle/people mover will be running all day.

This is a great way to start the summer season and you'll be supporting your community by supporting this Sertoma fundraiser. If you'd like to learn more about Sertoma (SERvice TO MAnkind), see one of us at the cookoff or visit us for breakfast at Sharkey's, each Friday at 6:30 a.m. (that's right, a.m.).
