Sertoma chili cookoff April 24 and 25

Staff Reports

The Carson Valley Sertoma Club hosts the 18th annual Regional Championship Chili Cookoff and Craft Fair on April 24 and 25 at the Carson Valley Inn.

The event features 70 booths of crafters and vendors, live entertainment, raffles, food, beverages and contests for Miss Chili Pepper, Mr. Hot Sauce and Shoot & Holler. Admission is free for this family event.

More than 30 award-winning cooks compete for cash prizes and awards for best green chili, red chili and salsa. The winners go on to the annual International Chili Society World Chili Cookoff, one of the world's largest food contest and festival organizations.

The Sertoma Club's Chili Cookoff and Craft Fair generates about two-thirds of their annual income. All of the profits raised by Sertoma benefits needy individuals and charitable groups in Carson Valley.

One of Sertoma's recent projects was to donate $5,000 to maintain the availability of soup for lunch at the Douglas County Senior Center.
