Minden's noon and 6 p.m. whistle has been silent for more than a week. There is a lot of speculation as to why the whistle was turned off. The whistle is a tradition that used to tell people when to eat lunch and when to go home in the factory town.

Douglas County's shooting range is closed thanks to stray bullets bouncing all over the place. The county is working to reconfigure the range, pointing it in a safer direction and setting up berms that will keep the bullets where they're supposed to be.

This is the final week that they'll be making candy in Genoa for the annual Candy Dance. By Friday, all 4,500 pounds of the sweet stuff should be done and next week they'll start boxing it up.

Candy Dance is the town of Genoa's annual fund-raiser. This year is will be Sept. 23 and 24.

The predicted cold front is supposed to arrive on Thursday with winds of up to 40 mph, gusting to 50 mph in particularly windy areas, according to the National Weather Service.

Autumn is going to bust in like a narcotics task force later this week, so enjoy today and Wednesday's warm temperatures before they're gone.

Centerville Lane was closed Monday evening while an accident at Lutheran Bridge was cleared. While inconveniencing commuters between Gardnerville and the Ranchos, there were only minor injuries for the folks who hit the bridge abutment.
