Douglas sweeps South Tahoe

The Douglas volleyball team continued its strong play Tuesday night, sweeping easily past South Tahoe, a team the Tigers had struggled through five games against earlier in the season, 25-17, 25-12, 25-10 Tuesday at Douglas.

The Tigers (18-10, 5-3) clinched a the No. 3-seed out of the Sierra League in the regional playoffs with the win. They still have matches remaining against Reno and Wooster.

Douglas continued to dominate the service game, recording 12 aces. Ironically, for as strong as the Tiger servers were, the Vikings still got the majority of their points (10) from Douglas service errors.

Even so, the Tigers were nothing short of dominating in all aspects of the game as Ali Witteman recorded nine kills to go with one dig and two aces to lead the Tigers.

Jessica Waggoner had seven kills despite some tough coverage from the Vikings and six blocks.

Megan Myers had five kills, two blocks and three aces and Bonnie Matheson had four aces.

Taryn Williams had a strong game on the outside with four kills and Alyssa Todd had two kills, two blocks, one assist and one ace.

Megan Mitchell finished off the night with 26 assists and one kill and Kaylee Hall had one kill and one dig.

A 9-2 run in the middle of the second game and a 7-2 run to close the second out propelled the Tigers into the third game, where they put together a 6-2 run and an impressive 11-0 run to close the match out.

Perhaps the highlight of the match was an extended rally earlier in the third game where the teams batted the ball back and forth for nearly two minutes, in the middle of which Matheson had an incredible one-handed diving save, before Myers hammered the kill home for the 4-1 lead.
