Galleries host weekend of events

The Carson Valley Art Gallery Association continues with its Second Saturday events in November. The CVAGA was formed by the seven galleries in Carson Valley to promote visual arts in the area. Each gallery holds special events on the second Saturday of every month - from artists' demonstrations, music and food to workshops and special art shows. A gallery brochure and map is available at all seven of the Carson Valley Galleries.

The events scheduled for November are:

n Peruvian Music and Artwork is scheduled at Artisans International, 1653 Lucerne St., Minden. Musicians will be playing from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Peruvian artwork will be 10 percent off all day. Art includes Aztec-inspired, hand loomed wool tapestries, hand-quilted arpilleras and semi-precious jewelry set in Peruvian silver.

n Ornament painting with Elfriede Short demonstrating will be at East Fork Gallery, 1503 Highway 395, Gardnerville. Short originally painted solely in oils, but has since expanded her talents to watercolors, acrylics and pastels. She is well known in the area for her hand-painted Christmas ornaments and wooden Easter eggs. Ornaments will be available for purchase. The demonstration will be from 1-4 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

n Meet the artist, Patricia Wallis, at the Davis Gallery of Fine Art, 2285B Main St., Genoa. Patricia Wallis is a Reno-based contemporary landscape artist. She will be on hand to discuss her techniques of painting from fly-over views.

n An abstract acrylic workshop with Pam Brekas will be presented at Artistic Viewpoints Gallery, 1368 Highway 395B, Gardnerville. Get rid of inhibitions about painting things "as they are" and tune into your creative self. Relax and let the medium direct your effort. Have fun and enjoy. n The 22nd Anniversary Celebration and Open House will be at Lone Tree Gallery, 1598 Esmeralda Ave., Minden. The celebration starts today from 4- 9 p.m. with a "champagne showing" of new works by gallery artists. Come and meet all the gallery artists represented by Lone Tree Gallery. Enter to win a framed, limited-edition print by Mimi Jobe. The drawing will be held Saturday afternoon. Call 782-2522.

n Art!Rageous, 1685 Highway 395, No. 5, Minden will be featuring 50 percent off all framed art by nationally known artists.

n Also visit Minden Fast Frame Art Gallery, 1614 Highway 395, Minden, while traveling the "art trail." Minden Fast Frames Art Gallery will present Making Giclee Prints of Your Artwork from 9-11 a.m., information for any artist wanting to accurately reproduce original works for sale. Michael Nelson from Grafix 8 will do the presentation. Also included in the Second Saturday event will be an exhibit of angels by J. Renee Ekleberry. She has been working on a book for the past two years with each chapter (52) illustrated with an angel. Approximately 37 images are now complete and most of them will be on display during the event.
