Just weeks before school let out Career Days popped up around Douglas County schools providing students with inspiration and careers to look forward to and thrive toward.

On May 23, nearly 30 businesses, agencies, and organizations set up shop in the gym at Carson Valley Middle School, offering hands-on displays, job insights, and face-to-face advice for curious middle schoolers.

Over the course of the afternoon, students rotated through booths and had real conversations about everything from agriculture and law enforcement to counseling, design, and skilled trades.

Taylor Lynch of Taylor’s Scissors & Clippers said being a part of the career day at Carson Valley Middle School was a great opportunity to talk with the kids and encourage them to pursue their interests.

“The kids were so great and so eager to interact and talk with you,” said Lynch. “I loved hearing about of their interests from the fast food workers, to doctors, and even a writer. All of those are important and I think it’s important to just be out there and get as much exposure as you can and change as many lives as possible.”

Jacks Valley Elementary hosted its annual Career Day on May 29, giving students the chance to explore a wide range of professions—and even witness a helicopter landing from Care Flight.

Gardnerville Elementary School hosted AG Day the first week of June with a bunch of local businesses setting up booths and giving ag-related demonstrations to students.

“Events like this are vital in helping students visualize their future and understand how their education connects to the real world,” said Practical Assessment Exploration System teacher Stodieck Barker. “We’re incredibly grateful to our community partners for supporting our students in such a meaningful way to link students with their community and spark inspiration for what’s next.”
