A strong thunderstorm moving through Douglas County knocked out power as it passed north at 10 mph 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

NVenergy.com reported 1,961 customers, mostly in Minden, were without electricity.

Power was restored to most customers by 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

National Weather Service Reno meteorologists said Doppler radar was tracking the storm which is driving 40 mph winds and dumping pea-sized hail in places.

Forecasters are urging residents to go indoors until the storm passes.

Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.
