Road controls are in effect over Kingsbury Grade as a winter storm warning goes into effect for the Sierra above 5,000 feet.
The NVroads.com traffic cameras came back up just in time to reveal snow falling in the Carson Range.
As of 10:12 a.m. chain controls are in effect over Kingsbury Grade and Spooner Summit.
At least two motorists could be seen on the Daggett Summit traffic camera installing chains.
Earlier this morning the cameras were down across Douglas County, prompting a note from The R-C to the Nevada Department of Transportation.
The cameras were back in action by 9:30 a.m. in time to reveal snow falling at Daggett and Spooner summits.
It rained briefly in Minden this morning, before the arrival of a wind advisory 2 p.m. today through 4 p.m. Friday.
As of 10 a.m., road controls were in place on Highway 88 over Carson Pass, on Highway 89 from Pickett’s Junction nearly to Meyers and over Highway 50 from Meyers to Twin Bridges.
A winter storm warning is in effect for the entire Sierra Nevada above 5,000 feet until noon Friday, with snow of 6-10 inches at Lake level and 2-3 feet on the highest peaks.
Waves 2-4 feet are forecast at Lake Tahoe as winds gust up to 50 mph a lower elevations and hit up to 100 mph along the ridges.
Heavy snow is predicted to continue overnight. Motorists should expect delays over the passes.
Once the storm clears, forecasters predict drier, but colder temperatures with overnight lows in the teens in the Western Nevada valleys.
